Come let your spirit be lifted and encouraged!
7:00pm - Gospel artists Lydia Phoenix Coleman, voice,
and Henry McDaniel III, piano
Phoenix and Henry bring their soul stirring music to St. Barnabas once again! They will present a program centered around the Advent themes of Hope, Joy, Love and Peace. Come sink into this season of light.
8:00pm - Singer-songwriter Steve Slagg
Steve’s music has been described as “earthy but mystical, cynical but hopeful, conversational but poetic, and painstakingly honest”. His tender, funny and beautifully complex songs explore faith, queer sexuality, and the beauty of the natural world. (more at steveslagg.com)
We are thrilled to have all three of these musicians return to our benefit concert series. This evening’s concert will benefit the St. Barnabas mission trip to support the Horse and Pony Camp at the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota.
The 8:00pm concert is accompanied by festive refreshments!
About the benefit: The St. Barnabas community will be sending a Mission Team out to the Cheyenne River Lakota Reservation in South Dakota. We are scheduled to go in July of 2025. St. Barnabas has developed a loving relationship with the ten small Episcopal churches on the Reservation over the last ten years. We go to “be with” a Native American community that suffers from historical, intergenerational, and immediate trauma as we strive to “walk humbly, listen carefully, share joyfully and practice love in all things and at all times.”
We greatly appreciate your support and your prayers
Suggested donation is $10-$40, or whatever you are able to give.
You are warmly invited to attend and support this benefit concert series at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Glen Ellyn! Each concert begins upstairs in the beautiful acoustics of the main church, followed by another musical offering downstairs in a bistro setting, accompanied by delicious refreshments.
Suggested donations will support outreach ministries of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church: the Renk Medical Clinic of South Sudan, St. Leonard’s Ministries in Chicago, the Cheyenne River Episcopal Mission, and DuPage P.A.D.S.
The theme of the series is “Comfort and Joy”, with the hope that these musical offerings bring just that to listeners, and that the donations bring encouragement to those with whom we partner in ministry.
Suggested donation is $10-$40, or whatever you are able to give.
Please know that you are welcome to attend both or either of the upstairs and downstairs portions of the concerts – we appreciate your support in any way that you are able. We hope that your spirit will be uplifted by the music and the opportunity to share in ministry.
Past Events
Saturday, November 11, 2023 - Upstairs, Singer/songwriter/pianist Steve Slagg presented a reflective acoustic piano and voice set. Slagg’s tender, funny and beautifully complex songs explore faith, queer sexuality, and the beauty of the natural world. Downstairs, Steve was joined by his bandmates, and presented more of his tender, funny, and complex songs. The concert benefitted the Cheyenne River Episcopal Mission
