Dear Friends in Christ,

Beginning Sunday, May 10th, we will be moving to a new approach for announcements during our Sunday liturgy. This change has been thoughtfully discussed by the Liturgy Committee and approved by the Vestry as part of our shared commitment to the health and future of our parish.

Going forward, all announcements should be submitted to the church office by Thursday of the previous week for inclusion in Sunday’s announcements. These will be gathered and read by an appointed person at the time of the Peace during the service. If an urgent or same-day announcement arises, please speak with me directly before the service so we can discern together how best to communicate it.

This change is not about making our services less personal. In fact, it is quite the opposite.

Announcements have gradually taken up a significant amount of time, and we want to be attentive to how we welcome and care for all who are with us—especially newcomers. A more streamlined and intentional approach helps us honor people’s time and allows the liturgy itself to remain clear and prayerful in its movement.

It is also important to remember that at the conclusion of the liturgy, we are sent out into the world. When announcements follow that sending, they can unintentionally diminish the power of that moment. This adjustment helps us preserve the integrity of that sending.

In addition, we are strengthening our pastoral care in prayer. On the first and last Sundays of each month, prayer will be offered during the Eucharist in the Chapel for those who desire it. At any time, anyone with a particular need is always welcome to speak with a member of the clergy after the service for prayer or anointing.

Thank you for helping us move toward a more intentional, hospitable, and focused approach to our life together in worship.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Senior Warden, Nancy Moran, or to me.

In Christ,
Father John
