This a special time for animal lovers to gather at St. Barnabas. It is the time of the annual "Blessing of the Animals" ceremony to Celebrate St. Francis' Day (Oct 4th).
St. Francis was a gentle saint who lived in the 12th century in Assisi, Italy. His love for God was expressed in caring for the poor and the sick as well as delighting in all of creation, which Francis saw as an expression of God's love.
To celebrate St. Francis Day each year, St. Barnabas invites the human companions of animals (a.k.a. pet owners) to bring their pets to be blessed. Pet owners, friends and neighbors, with or without pets, are invited to join the joyous though somewhat noisy celebration. The one thing we ask is that for safety’s sake non-canine pets be in a crate or container.
